Avocado Boba

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 2 1x

Description

Don’t let the green color fool you- this bubble tea is just as delicious and decadent as your other favorite flavors. The earthiness of the avocado and the sweet tapioca pearls balance each other out deliciously.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup boba pearls
  • 2 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 large, ripe avocado
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup condensed milk
  • 46 ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Cook the tapioca pearls according to the package directions.
  2. After running them under cold water, transfer the boba pearls to a different bowl, and add in the brown sugar. If the sugar is not dissolving, add a spoonful of water. Set the pearls aside.
  3. Add the avocado, milk, condensed milk, and ice to a blender. Blend until creamy and smooth.
  4. Divide the tapioca balls and brown sugar syrup into each glass. Fill the rest of the glass with the avocado smoothie.
  5. Add additional ice and sweetener, if desired. Enjoy through a large boba straw.

Notes

This recipe doesn’t have a tea base, but black, matcha, or green tea are great options. If you decide to use tea, use only a 1/2 cup of milk and one cup of tea.

If you are vegan or lactose-intolerant, you will need to find replacements for the milk and the condensed milk. Oat or soy milk are two great options, but to replace the condensed milk, you’ll need to add more sweetener.

We also like to substitute a low-calorie sweetener such as stevia instead of brown sugar.

What Does Avocado Boba Taste Like?

Avocado boba has a hint of sweetness from the sugar syrup and condensed milk, but it is not overwhelming. The avocado masks some of the sweetness and gives the drink a somewhat earthy taste.

Because of the combination of milk and avocado, the drink’s texture is rich and creamy. This is a perfect drink for any time of the day because it is filling and will keep you satisfied for a few hours.

Is Avocado Bubble Tea Sweet?

As we mentioned before, avocado bubble tea is somewhat sweet. However, it is not overwhelming unless you choose to make it so. At home or in a bubble tea shop, you can always control the amount of sugar that goes into your tea.

This recipe has just a hint of sweetness mixed with the earthy taste of avocado, so it is an excellent drink for the mornings or a mid-day snack.

Is Avocado Boba Tea Healthy?

Avocados are a source of healthy fat that have several health benefits. Some of those benefits include:

  • They are high in vitamins such as C, E, K, and B6.
  • They contain beneficial fats that help you feel fuller longer between meals.
  • They provide vital nutrients such as riboflavin, niacin, folate, magnesium, and potassium.

Though avocados provide several health benefits, the added sugar in bubble tea makes the drink less healthy. Of course, there are healthier options, such as using stevia instead of sugar.
